White Water Kayak Award 

The White Water Award endorses your skill, judgment and decision making to ensure a successful day on rivers up to grade 2. You will be confident in planning and undertaking journeys on moving water with proficient skills to be in control throughout. Your award should be seen as a sound basis for building the experience and knowledge associated with Progressive White Water Award holders.

 

Pre – requisites: logged trips in kayak, previous experience, be able to roll a kayak.

Progressive White Water Kayak Award

The Progressive White Water Award endorses your judgment, decision making and expertise and requires a good understanding of paddling on grade 3-4 rivers. You should be confident planning and undertaking journeys on a variety of white water rivers. Your confidence should be based upon both proficiency in skills and a broad appreciation of surroundings and environmental context. Your award should be seen as a sound basis for independently building the experience and expertise associated with Advanced White Water Award holders.

British Canoeing Leadership Awards:

White Water Kayak Leader Training

If you’re looking to lead kayakers on moderate white water, this two day training focuses on personal skills and leadership. This emphasises the application of strokes to achieve suitable techniques and boat control in real situations and covers personal paddling skills, rescue skills, safety, leadership and group skills and the theory.

 

 Pre – requisites: white water progressive kayak award, 3 star white water kayak or similar standard.

White Water Kayak Leader Assessment

Course aims –  Final Assessment to achieve the Moderate Water Leader award in kayak, your skills will be observed though a two day assessment with a real group on a grade 2 river with sections of grade 3.

 

 Pre – requisites: 

  • Relevant Leadership Training: White Water Kayak Leader training within previous 3 years

  • Relevant Safety Training: White Water Safety & Rescue training or (or Rescue 3 Whitewater Rescue Technician)

  • First Aid Award: Recognised 2-day First Aid within last 3 years

  • Registration Fee: £39 for British Canoeing members

  • Age: 16 years of age, or older

Price includes Rapid Skills paying the BC admin fee of £10
