Paddling:

Three days of paddling in the stunning Lake District. Over the three days we will paddle around four to five hours a day in various weather conditions. Whilst day one will be planned by your coach, the following two days will be led by you. Your coach will guide you in planning a safe paddling trip and on the final day your group will confidently plan and lead the days paddling.

Hiking:

Supported by a qualified international mountain leader, we’ve two days of hiking up and back from one of the UKs most remote hostel, only accessible by foot and located beneath the north face of Great Gable. With a nights stay in the mountains, the former shepherds hut bothy conjures up the ultimate sense of isolation with unbeatable views of one of the Lake Districts most stunning areas. The fire is lit most days and come evening guests hunker down together over food. Ennerdale is classified as ‘Dark Sky’ country, so clear nights should provide unrivalled star-gazing.

Yoga with Happiest When Outdoors:

Yoga for paddlers and hikers, taught by an experienced paddler/ hiker. Over the five days, there’ll be the opportunity to learn how to support your body. Prepare and warm the body for paddling and hiking. How to move and stretch. Less about philosophy, more about movement. No fancy yoga clothes needed. Mats can be loaned out if you don’t have one.

Kathy is also rather well known for her SUP Yoga classes. A combo of nature immersion, mindfulness, purposeful movement and a large dollop of play. If the conditions and timings are suitable, then a SUP yoga session can be included in the trip. One warning though… It’s rather addictive and can leave you with a huge beaming smile on your face, and laughter that echoes around the valleys.

Accommodation:

Staying in two bunkhouse accommodations, one in Buttermere and one at the top of Ennerdale, you will be sharing private rooms with other members of the group on the trip.

There are communal areas where we can chill in the evenings and an outdoor area. There’s a drying room ideal for drying off paddling kit after a day on the water.

The Buttermere hostel lies within walking distance of both Buttermere and Crummock Water, both renowned for their great wild swimming potential.

Meals:

All our trips are self-catered. Our chosen bunkhouse has an on-site pub offering great evening meals including freshly made pizzas and breakfasts.  There's also a communal kitchen with the usual appliances if you’d prefer to cook. We hope you will join us in eating out one evening.

Lunch and snacks will be needed each day. They can be prepared in the communal kitchen by yourself or can be bought en route to the lake.

Paddling Equipment:

You don't need your own equipment to join us on this trip as paddleboards, paddles, and safety equipment are available to borrow and are included in the price of the trip.

If you are bringing your own paddleboard, it should ideally be appropriate for paddling long distances and in chop. Please feel free to get in contact with us if you are unsure if your board is suitable for the trip. You must also have a coiled leash and buoyancy aid/PFD.

A full kit list will be emailed to you after booking on.

How to get to the Lake District:

  • Drive - this is the best way as we will need to drive around to different venues for the weekend and our vehicles have limited spaces in them with all the kit. We do encourage sharing lifts with other members of the group, which can be arranged in the WhatsApp group for the trip.

  • Train - you can get a train to Oxenholme Train Station and we can collect you from there but we can't do this for everyone as we have limited seats in our vehicles.
