In a way, this style of trip was born from a happy accident. Last year our scheduled Knoydart expedition was threatened by bad weather, so rather than cancelling, we took the opportunity to test our contingency plan. We adapted what is normally used for our Scotland Whitewater Kayaking adventures, which resulted in an amazing five days of touring around Scotland from a central base and exploring all the Lochs, rivers, canals and coastline the west coast has to offer. The clients absolutely loved this more flexible style, dictated by what they felt like day to day and what the weather was doing. They could not believe how much of Scotland they got to see and the different environments/weather conditions they got to paddle in – it was agreed that this style of trip needed to happen again…

"Thanks Josh for an amazing trip. Despite the weather making the original plans too challenging, your ability to replan on the go was phenomenal and really made the trip. We saw an amazing amount of the Scottish Loch’s, sea and canals. Stunning scenery and wildlife and also developed our paddling techniques. We all gained confidence paddling into the wind / with the wind, paddling in choppy conditions, moving around more on the board and learnt a huge amount we will be taking away with us and putting into action back home. Thank you for making it such a memorable trip - can we go back please!” CJ - 2023

The Paddling:

The beauty of this trip is the ability to go with the flow, catering the locations and style of paddling to the group’s appetite and the weather conditions day to day. There is no solid ‘paddling plan’, but we can guarantee that each day will be an adventure and you will get to see a side of Scotland that very few other people get to see. We will explore the West Coast of Scotland on a new Loch each day, with the potential to also paddle some rivers and on the sea! If the group is keen (and weather conditions are kind) we could also do a one night expedition and wild camp under the stars. The possibilities are endless.

This trip is also a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills for paddling on open water in challenging conditions. As well as being your guides, we aim to help you develop as paddlers – we will look at how to better control our boards in the wind and deal with chop, ready for more coastal adventures. Maybe you're preparing yourself for a SUP expedition or working towards a Paddle UK SUP leadership award, what better way to get varied experience in different conditions/environments than a week of paddling around Scotland with us?

Throughout the trip we will have a private cottage to return to each night allowing us to warm up, dry kit, cook good food and have a warm, comfy nights sleep.

Why October?

The autumnal colours are breathtaking in Scotland and in these rural locations definitely make the trip more special! This time of year is generally quieter, there are fewer midges and whilst the weather conditions can go either way, the style of trip means that we're prepared for all eventualities. Additionally, if you're an avid Harry Potter fan, a lot of our potential paddling spots are filming locations.

Who are we aiming this trip at?

This trip is for people with paddle boarding experience, looking to explore Scotland. We will be paddling 10-15km a day, with the potential of paddling in up to force 4 winds and going on the sea.
