Slovenia provides an incredible opportunity to push your paddling to the next level. With a range of grade 2, 3 and 4 white water available there's something for everyone to enjoy, and its the perfect environment to work on the technical and tactical skills needed to really style those lines. At Rapid Skills we believe there are only a handful of techniques and tactics required to paddle any grade of water, so throughout the week we will introduce these to you before continually reinforcing them until they are second nature.
The river we will be paddling on in Slovenia is called the Soča. Flowing through the spectacular Soča Valley, this one river has 10 different sections you can paddle that present a range of difficulty from grade 1 all the way up to grade 4. It is the perfect play ground for people to push themselves and really work on those river running skills, all while being a safe and enjoyable environment.
Getting to Slovenia:
You can either drive out or fly from Stanstead Airport to Trieste Airport in Italy then either hire a car and drive to Bovec or arrange being picked up by us. You can also fly from anywhere in the UK with EasyJet to Venice and then hire a car and drive up to us in Bovec. Flying with your kayak is possible with EasyJet with certain baggage allowances, please check their website for more details. If you want to arrange boat transport out to Slovenia or boat hire whilst there, please get in contact with us prior to the trip.
Arrival and Departure days:
After a long drive or flight to Slovenia we don't want you to worry that you'll miss your first day of paddling or be too tired to enjoy yourself; so on our first day you can arrive at any time and when you do the kettle will be boiled and we'll have cake ready to eat as you chat to your guide, sort out your kit and get settled in. We do the same for your departure. You enjoy your last day of paddling and a good meal on the Friday before settling down in your comfy bed to re-energise prior to your journey home the next day. Most flights are in the afternoon so once we have packed up in the morning we will be able to go off a do touristy things such as visit a second world war bunker or take the gondola up into the mountains to visit the glacier.
Accommodation and food:
We rent a big spacious house in Bovec, which is the main town next to the Soca river. This gives us great access to all the sections along the river and means we don't have to travel far each day to go paddling.
As with all our adventures we offer this as self catering, this allows the flexibility to cook communally, individually or head to the pub. Each morning you will be able to walk down to the local bakery to pick up fresh croissants and fresh bread. There is a big supermarket to buy a range of snacks, lunches and dinners or head out and find a local restaurant which cook a variety of dishes all reasonably priced, and we highly recommend you try the pizza as its some of the best in the world!
