Paddlesport Safety & Rescue

Course aims:

Formally known as the FSRT. This course aims to provide the paddler with key safety and rescue skills in a sheltered water environment in a variety of craft. The paddler will learn skills which will ensure the safety of themselves and others around them whilst out paddling and will learn appropriate rescue techniques which can be used to help them or others when in difficulty. Did you know, you can also re-do your Paddlesport Safety & Rescue to count towards a Coach Update!

The course will cover six modules:

  • Clothing and Equipment

  • Safety frameworks

  • Contact and Towing rescues

  • Self-rescues

  • Deep water rescues

  • Reflection and development

This course is open to anyone of any age.

White Water Safety (WWS) 

Course aims:

This 2 day course is aimed at those paddling as peers and covers a range of topics that include emergency planning & procedures, chase boating, equipment rescues and scenarios and much more. This course is designed to support paddlers to be independent participants on grade 2(3) white water rivers. You can attend this course in either white water kayak, canoe or stand up paddleboard.

 

The course will cover 9 modules:

  • Motivations and Decisions

  • River Trip

  • Emergency planning & procedures

  • Review and reflections

  • Chase boating and equipment rescues

  • Swimming and rescues

  • Retrieving people and equipment

  • Extracting methods

  • Review and reflections

This is a pre-requisite course for the British Canoeing moderate water leader awards in white water kayak and open canoe. You must have this award before going for your assessment.

 

Pre – requisites:

  • Paddling ability - BC personal performance award in whitewater kayak award or progressive canoe award or whitewater SUP award depending on the craft you wish to attend the award in or confident in your ability to paddle on grade 2 (3) white water in chosen craft.

  • Confident swimming in normal paddling clothing suitable for a moving water environment

- Price includes British Canoeing certificate fee.

- Price does not include any car parking or launching fees.
